I am very much disappointed with the blunder of President Rodrigo Duterte mentioning God as stupid in a public forum.
The President cursed God for the concept of "original sin" in the Bible's creation story last June 22 retelling the story of Adam and Eve and how they ate the fruit from the forbidden tree and thus brought original sin upon humankind.
He also finds it preposterous that babies should be born with original sin.
This was not the first time the President expressed his outrageous comments and opinions against God. During the launch of his presidential campaign over two years ago, he cursed Pope Francis for causing traffic in Manila.
He also made similar remarks in his meeting with the Filipino community in South Korea on June 3 citing the story of Adam and Eve.
Even the President criticizes religion and institutions, he still believes in a greater being.
The Roman Catholic Church and other religious organizations in the country expressed their dismay over the President's comments about the creation in the Book of Genesis. Even the first female Chief Justice Maria Lourdes P. A. Sereno said that Duterte may have violated the Constitution when he cursed God since that the President is required to preserve and defend the Constitution and its spirit, and that the preamble was an "integral part" of the country's supreme law.
The Vice President also showed her unpleasant reaction towards the remarks given by the President calling God as "stupid".
In my own personal view, whether we believe in religions or not, it is not correct to say that we already have the license to blunder and insult God in whatever means. Given the fact that the President is not a believer of the Roman Catholic religion (though he is a Catholic), it doesn't guarantee him to call God as stupid based on his own interpretation of the Book of Genesis. I do not read the Bible (though I am also a Catholic) but interpreting it without any divine intercession from God himself and enough expertise and education to dig into its context isn't correct. It's just like self medicating and prescribing your own medicines without any consulting any physician or doctor. You're not giving the correct remedy based on a symptom that hasn't been checked thoroughly.
So as a member of the Roman Catholic Church, I denounce the remarks of the President calling God as stupid as I believe that God works in mysterious ways that we human beings cannot explain by our naked eyes.
And as I end, I would like to quote the verse borrowed from the Holy Bible which says:
"Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord." (Psalm 33:12)
