I strongly criticize ACTS-OFW Aniceto “John” Bertiz, III for his reason that he compares himself to a woman undergoing from a “menstrual period” that’s why he confronted a security officer at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) last September.

During his press conference on the House of Representatives, he issued his public apology over his outburst in the viral NAIA “shoes” video where he didn’t removed his shoes as a part of the airport’s security protocol. In this press conference, he cited that he is also experiencing from a “menstrual period once a year”, who’s also weak and sometimes gets hotheaded.

Netizens again slammed the party-list representative, saying that his statement comparing his behavior to a woman with a menstrual period is “disrespectful” to women. His fellow lawmakers also said that it was “grossly inappropriate and inexcusable behavior”.

In my own opinion, Representative Bertiz can issue his apology about the NAIA incident without comparing his behavior and act to a woman experiencing a premenstrual syndrome (PMS). He can just simply say sorry for his actions, vow not to do it again, and subject himself to security measures just like ordinary Filipinos. It was inappropriate from the very first place to compare a man to a woman because both are created having our distinct traits and characteristics, which is incomparable.

This time, I hope that Representative Bertiz has learned his lesson in life – and that is to be careful to his words because people are just there, listening to public servants like us.
