I support the recent decision of President Rodrigo Duterte to appoint Department of Agriculture (DA) Undersecretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat as the new Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary following the allegedly involvement of the department in the 60 million peso tourism ad placement of People's Television Network, Inc. (PTNI) to Bitag Media Unlimited, Inc. (BMUI) owned by the siblings of its former chief Wanda Corazon T. Tulfo-Teo.
Secretary Romulo-Puyat has served some previous government posts as a consultant at the Presidential Management Staff under the Arroyo administration, Undersecretary for Special Concerns at the Department of Agriculture during the Aquino administration, and Undersecretary for Administration, Agribusiness and Marketing, and Regional Engagement in the same department since July 2017 under Duterte's presidency.
Given her wide experience in the government, the newly appointed DOT Secretary assured the public and the President himself that she will get rid of corruption in the department.
The family of Secretary Romulo-Puyat has been serving numerous government posts. She is the daughter of former Department of Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto Romulo and sister of Pasig City Representative Roman Romulo.
Upon assuming her office, Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat is now being watched by millions of Filipinos whether the Philippines will once again host the Miss Universe beauty pageant after the President showed his interest to showcase our tourism haven Boracay in the world and to prove once more that "it's more fun in the Philippines!"
