I am dismayed to uncover that our Filipino fishermen on Bajo de Masinloc or Scarborough Shoal are being harrassed by their Chinese counterparts.
The news website GMA News featured a May 20 phone footage where two Chinese coast guard personnel can be seen going aboard a Filipino vessel and later on opening a container where the catch of the fishermen were stored.
In the video, the Chinese are taking away the catch of the Filipino fishermen from Scarborough Shoal.
The incident of harassment has been surfaced out by Magdalo Representative Gary Alejano which was belied by the Philippine government.
According to Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano, the country has already filed a silent protest against China for these actions made by Chinese fishermen.
There was also been another incident reported that the Chinese "bartered" goods from China in exchange of fishes caught by our Filipino fishermen. But it turned out that the goods were already expired.
This scenario is very frustrating on the part of our fishermen since they feel that they are still fishing in the waters that we never owned - branding themselves as thefts, where in fact, the Philippines won the diplomatic protest against China in the International Arbitral Tribunal in 2016 ruling that Scarborough Shoal is within our Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
This must be the last time to bully our fellow Filipinos who only want to earn for a living. China must abide within the international rulings and laws. Chinese control over our islands must stop.
Our government must take a bold step to stop the repetitive abuses committed by China. As what Supreme Court Senior Associate Justice and Acting Chief Justice Antonio T. Carpio, the Philippines must file another diplomatic protest against China.
So I firmly denounce the actions made by the Chinese fishermen and support the call of Justice Carpio to act against China in the proper tribunal.
