STATEMENT ABOUT THE PCOO REPETITIVE ERRORS IN ITS SOCIAL MEDIA POSTS

As a taxpayer for almost two years (before we have been exempted for this year due to TRAIN law), I am very much disgusted by the research team and to the entire staff of the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) over its two consecutive errors committed in posting to its verified and official social media accounts these past few days.

The first mistake originated from the post of the communications arm of the government about outgoing Norwegian Ambassador to the Philippines Erik Forner, who paid President Rodrigo Duterte a farewell call in Malacañang. In its caption, Forner was dubbed "the representative of Norwegia."

However, the country is not called as Norwegia. It's officially known as the Kingdom of Norway, and while Norwegians also refer to it in their local tongues as Norge and Noreg, they do not refer to it as Norwegia.

The netizens reacted to the mistake as the PCOO receives P1.38 billion yet they post errors in their social media accounts which enraged them.

The second flak received by the office was a tweet who referred to the late National Security Adviser and former Parañaque congressman Roilo Golez as "Rogelio" though the late public servant's first name was Jose Roilo. The mistake was also used by PCOO as a caption to a Facebook post on Thursday, June 14.

Again, the netizens were quick to spot the error and became disappointed to the PCOO for displaying lack of competence.

Because of the post from the communications office, some media organizations shared the same mistake when they reported the President's visit to the wake, carrying the name Rogelio.

Golez's son and current Parañaque City Vice Mayor Rico Golez, even requested the media to correct the blunder.

The PCOO under Duterte administration has been in the public eye for its errors over the past years, from ASecretary Mocha Uson's sharing of misleading photos, to Undersecretary Badoy's malicious comments on Facebook regarding the European Union, to the PCOO-helmed Philippine News Agency using pineapple producer Dole Philippines' logo in a piece about the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

With all of their glaring flaks, I think the PCOO must do some researches carefully before sharing down information to the general public since they represent the government. It would be a big shame for a country's communications office to report events everyday with errors and flaws. A government office with billions of pesos of funds must ensure that they provide the correct info to the millions of Filipinos who are always looking for their official releases.

I just hope that my high tax contributions for the past two years under this administration in general and this office in particular will never be blundered as what they are doing when sharing their official announcements to the public.
